Bicycles

Jon and Hope Avery have owned Open Air Bicycles since 1983. We have been an integral part of the community for the last 23 years, whether it is to organize rides or races, help our schools, or even perform safety checks for your local Boy/Girl Scout troop.

Our relationships with the industry's top suppliers allow us to carry the best products at honest prices, and we back up our products with outstanding service. No, we don't offer "Lifetime Free Tune-ups" that turn out to be a way to charge you for stuff you don't need... Just good, solid old-fashioned service. Come on in and experience an honest, friendly bike shop- somewhere you can call home!!!

Our Staff:

  Jon Avery

Jon Avery, 48, owner of OPEN AIR BICYCLES for 23 years, has established one of the premier bike shops in the Tri-counties. He was raised in Rhode Island and obtained a Bachelors degree in engineering at Northeastern University. Jon previously worked as a Staff Scientist at EIC Laboratories (battery research) and plant manager at Bimetallix, Inc (machine shop). He moved out to Ventura in 1983 with the sole intention of opening up a bike shop and the rest is history...

Jon is happily married to his wife Hope and they have a teenage daughter, Hadley. Although Jon seems to spend most of his time at the bike shop, he has many hobbies including cycling, surfing, and sailing (he served in 2003 as Commodore of Ventura Yacht Club). Jon rides a Trek 5900 road bike and a Greg Diamond touring bike.

  Mark Knoeller

We are happy to welcome Mark for his 4th full year here at OAB. Besides being one of the most cheerful, friendliest guys you're likely to run across, he KNOWS HIS STUFF!! Mark has been in the industry for 9 years, starting in Virginia and most recently at Montrose Cycles. As a long time bicycle commuter (logging 600 miles in a good month and over 5000 miles/year) and an occasional mountain bike racer, he is an exceptionally qualified bike geek. In general he loves cycling and working on bikes. Mark is the proud owner of a Serotta Concours Ti road bike, a Specialized S-Works FSR mountain bike, and a totally tricked out One-on-One fixie (at least those are the ones that are in one piece right now!!). Sorry girls- Mark's a newlywed, and on his days off he and Dawn can be found gettin' down and dirty rock-climbing, biking, camping, or hiking; generally having fun in the outdoors..

Ian Crawford

Ian is cool, he just needs to help us write his info...
